Water Salute, what is it?
Aviation, a world of amazing rituals.
The Water Salute is a gesture of good luck that usually occurs in important events as baptisms, opening or closing a routes or as an act of homage to an association, aircraft or pilot.
It consists in connecting two water streams directed from trucks (usually fire trucks), the water forms a big arche and the airplane circulates from the cockpit to the tail below it. This ceremony takes place at the taxiway in order to leave the runway free for other flights.
If you take a plane on your vacation and you are welcome with this ritual at the destination airport, now you know the possible cause. If this is your case, be happy because it is not easy to see such an exciting ceremony!
